Rules of Rummy

Indian Rummy or 13 Card Rummy game can be played by a minimum of two players and a maximum of six players. 1 deck of cards is required in 2 player tables and 2 decks of cards are required in 6 player tables. Each player has to, in turn, draw a card either from an open card deck or the closed card deck, and discard one card to the open deck. A player is unable to see the cards in a closed deck, while the open deck that is formed by the discarded cards is visible to the players. To win a rummy game, the player has to form one pure sequence, one impure sequence and sets.

Deck of cards:

13 Card Points Rummy is played by real players on 2 & 6 player tables. On 6-player tables, 2 to a maximum of 6 players can play at a time. Depending on the table selected, 1 or 2 decks of cards are used. Each deck has 53 Cards (13 cards of 4 suits each) and 1 printed Joker


Sorting:

In rummy, a sequence is a group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. There are two types of sequences that are formed; a pure sequence and an impure sequence. To win the game of rummy you need at least one pure sequence in your rummy hand.


Points in rummy:


· Each player must bring a minimum amount to the table.

· A toss will decide which player makes the first move.

· Each player is dealt a set of 13 cards randomly.

· First card from the pack is placed in the open deck indicating that the game has started.

· Remaining cards are placed face-down in the closed deck slot.

· A joker card is randomly selected at the beginning of each game.

· Printed Joker: In case a printed joker is selected as joker for a game, then players can also use Ace card of any suit as a joker in their sets and / or sequences.

· Objective : Arrange all 13 cards in-hand in sequences and/or sets.

· Each player takes turns to pick/discard a card from closed/open deck to complete sets and/or sequences.

· You can use one or more joker to complete your sets and/or sequences.

· You can move a card to the finish slot to declare your sets and sequences.

· To declare the player must show the cards in hand by grouping them in sets/sequences and clicking on 'Declare' button.

· Compulsory: To finish the game, you must declare at least two sequences, one of which must be a pure sequence.


Joker:

Joker card plays a very important role in rummy card game. Probably, it is the most important card that every player wants to have. It helps the player to quickly complete their mission of melding the 13 cards into proper sets and sequences. Melding 13 hand cards to meet the rummy game’s objective is not simple without some assistance. Joker cards would help you to achieve you to complete this task easily.


Drop:

It is always a good idea to drop out of the game when there are no matching cards upfront. Making a pure sequence and a sequence with Joker card should be your first priority and if the cards in your hand don’t help you for the same. Once the 13 cards are dealt to you in rummy, look for cards that can make a sequence. Even if you don’t get to make a pure sequence instantly, if you are confident of creating a pure sequence in a maximum of 2 moves, you can continue to play. Again, all of this depends of the cards you receive and a smart use of Joker cards can help you create the rest of sets/sequences to gain a win.

Set:

The basic goal in any form of rummy is to build melds which consists of sets, three or four of a kind of the same rank; or runs, three or more cards in sequence, of the same suit. If a player discards a card, making a run in the discard pile, it may not be taken up without taking all cards below the top card.
